The hotel first opened its doors in 2011 with the aim of becoming a hub for contemporary art and culture in Kyoto. Its entrance through a gallery space immediately sets it apart from other lodging facilities. In 2016, the hotel underwent a renewal, adding 67 new guest rooms and further integrating art into its design. Collaborating with renowned artists such as Kohei Nawa and Mika Ninagawa, the hotel created conceptual rooms that serve as gallery-like spaces, showcasing the worldviews of these talented individuals.
What makes Hotel Anteroom Kyoto truly unique is its commitment to being an "Art Fair 365 Days A Year." All the art pieces displayed throughout the hotel are available for purchase, attracting art enthusiasts and collectors from all corners of the globe. With over 200 pieces of artwork by 70 artists, the hotel serves as a platform for self-expression and creativity. In addition, the hotel provides a studio space and organizes an artist-in-residence program, allowing artists to create artwork within the premises.
Not only does Hotel Anteroom Kyoto offer a visually stunning experience, but it also provides a friendly atmosphere and assistance with local navigation for its guests.
