Hotel Anteroom Kyoto: A Hub for Art and Culture

A Unique Blend of Hospitality and Contemporary Art

The Hotel Anteroom Kyoto, designed by UDS Ltd., is a one-of-a-kind establishment that seamlessly combines the worlds of art, culture, and hospitality. Inspired by the rich heritage and unique contexts of Kyoto, this hotel offers a truly immersive experience for visitors from around the world.

The hotel first opened its doors in 2011 with the aim of becoming a hub for contemporary art and culture in Kyoto. Its entrance through a gallery space immediately sets it apart from other lodging facilities. In 2016, the hotel underwent a renewal, adding 67 new guest rooms and further integrating art into its design. Collaborating with renowned artists such as Kohei Nawa and Mika Ninagawa, the hotel created conceptual rooms that serve as gallery-like spaces, showcasing the worldviews of these talented individuals.

What makes Hotel Anteroom Kyoto truly unique is its commitment to being an "Art Fair 365 Days A Year." All the art pieces displayed throughout the hotel are available for purchase, attracting art enthusiasts and collectors from all corners of the globe. With over 200 pieces of artwork by 70 artists, the hotel serves as a platform for self-expression and creativity. In addition, the hotel provides a studio space and organizes an artist-in-residence program, allowing artists to create artwork within the premises.

Not only does Hotel Anteroom Kyoto offer a visually stunning experience, but it also provides a friendly atmosphere and assistance with local navigation for its guests. The hotel goes beyond traditional hospitality by offering a stimulating environment and opportunities for new encounters to its apartment tenants. With a plot area of 3055.07 sq.m. and a floor area of 6066.44 sq.m., including an expansion area of 2023.69 sq.m., the hotel provides ample space for guests to immerse themselves in art and culture.

Located in the heart of Kyoto, Japan, Hotel Anteroom Kyoto is a testament to the city's vibrant art scene and its commitment to preserving its cultural heritage. The design team, led by UDS Ltd., including Norito Nakahara, Naoya Tochio, Misaki Koyama, and Masako Ueda, successfully overcame the challenge of creating a gallery hotel full of art. The integration of artwork and interior design in the concept guestrooms, along with the extensive art collection displayed throughout the hotel, creates a truly immersive experience for guests.

The Hotel Anteroom Kyoto has been recognized for its exceptional design and innovation. In 2018, it was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award recognizes designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The hotel's commitment to integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics has contributed to a better world.
